| Eclesiastes 4:9-12 – “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if anyone lies down together, they wil keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be over[owered, two can defend theemselves. A. cord of three strands is not easily broken.”Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. 28 In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.”Eclesiastes 4:9-12- “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! If I mention the name Thomas Edison, the ‘light bulb” goes off in your head. We credit hime as the “sole inventor” of the incandescent light bulb.
We make it sound like the lone inventor, in a dark basement, working alone in silence until, all by himself, the bulb burned.
Whaat is I mentioned two other names? Joseph Swan? Francis Upton? Doesn’t ring a bel (or turn on the light) But, don’t pass over those names. Swan worked on the same problem for many years and provided many things that would not work. Upton did the math upon which Edison could rely for his work. Edison built upon the works of others. Without all of them, we’d stil live in the dark.
Yet, when we come to our Christian lives, we treat it as a one-person sport. We do the work ourselves and will b e judged on our efforts.
Jesus never set up his kingdom that way. He chose twelve disciples, and when he sent them out, it was two by two. Paul had Barnabas, and later Silas. Elisha had Elijah.
Solomon reminds us.
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return on their labor. If either of them falls down, the other can help pick them up. But pity anyone who falls and has no. one to help the other up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep war alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quiclkly broken.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)
True spiritual strength comes in numbers. Someone brought you along, and you must give back. The truth is none go to heaven alone, so quit trying.
