Exodus 1-3 gives us a brief account of the early life of Moses.
By this time, Josephs entire family of 70 came to Egypt to live as he was reunited with his father, Jacob, (otherwise known as Israel).
Now, Joseph has died, there is a new king in Egypt with over a million Israelites, which is more than their Egyptian captors. This is the first time Israel is considered a ‘nation’ and Pharaoh considered them a national security threat.
Pharoahs ‘Plan A’ determined that bitter work under slavery would keep them under control and stop the growth rate, however, the Israelites continued to expand!
Plan B was for the midwives to kill every male child born to the Israelites. This failed as well because the midwives feared God. The Israelites continued to multiply and grew very mighty.
Plan C was to have every Israelite baby boy cast into the river. It was during this time and under these conditions that Moses was born.
The mother of Moses saw that he was beautiful, and by faith she hid him for three months. But when she could hide him no longer, she got him a wicker basket and covered it over with tar and pitch. Then she put baby Moses into it and set it among the reeds by the bank of the Nile.
We all know the story, Moses grows up in the house of Pharoah. After he made the decision to return to his roots, he killed an Egyptian for beating an Israelite. Then he ran away in fear for his own life. He finds a wife and they have a son.
The Lord has big plans for Moses and calls him from the burning bush to tell him what those plans are. Moses is to lead the Israelites out of Egypt as they plunder the Egyptians on the way out.
Romans 10:17 says that faith comes from hearing. That being so, faith in God was passed down the line of Abraham to an entire Israelite Nation. Moses’s parents acted on their faith as they preserved the life of their baby. When Moses grew up, his faith was proven as he did what God told him to do, no matter how terrified he was.
Are we working at passing our faith down from generation to generation? Beginning with you, what may start out to be a small family could eventually turn into a massive clan of redeemed people! Yes, all beginning with you! Are we talking to our children about our faith, and letting them hear the Word of God? Or, do we act on our fear and choose not to have faith that God has His own special plan for each of us?
