Matthew 6:26 – “Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are you not much better than they?” |
My mother loved birds and had many styles of birdfeeders and birdhouses. She would sit for hours watching the wrens dart back and forth building their nests and waited anxiously for the first hummingbirds each spring. But one thing was always very obvious – those birds were busy! Whether big or small, beautifully colored or plain, they worked from dawn until dusk to take care of their families. And they did all of that while sharing their songs with those around them. As my pastor once told me, “Yes, God does feed the birds. But He doesn’t throw the worms up into the tree!” The same is true for us. God continues to provide blessings to us each day, but we need to do our part by getting up each morning and using our gifts and energy to serve our families and our communities. He provides the resources – the skills, talents, and opportunities – but it is up to us to do the work. And to do it cheerfully, with a song!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for all the gifts You freely give to me. Help me to see that your lavish provision of skills and talents is meant for my good and the good of the world around me. Let me always strive to stay joyfully busy in the works you have planned for me. Amen
