Focus On The Everlasting
Messy and dirty mechanical workshop bench full of tools

1 John 2:17 – “The world is passing away. And all the things that people want in the world are passing away. But the person who does what God wants lives forever.”

While moving our mother to a smaller place, my brothers and I each tried not to take anything home with us, as we all are storing things we need to rid ourselves of. In our garage, we have the spool bed my grandfather Bennie slept in. We need to part with it. I don’t want our kids to have to go through our things and make those decisions someday. I was making room in the garage for our Christmas decorations and noticed a very large box of scrap lumber, cut ends from when we built our fence in 2020. I cut our refrigerator box in half and threw them all in it. In 2.5 years, I haven’t touched it. I am no spring chicken, so my “someday” projects are fading away. I have a toolbox full of nuts, bolts, screws and nails that needs to be tossed out. Things set aside for someday when I will need them. Time to let go of them. Time to live more lightly with less accumulation. We keep our garage door closed so that no theft occurs. Maybe we should leave the door up so theft does occur. Otherwise, we have to dispose of it. All this stuff is going to burn someday in a fire of intense heat. Father in heaven, help us to focus on what endures, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
