Firefighters are amazing. As it is often said, firefighters walk toward the danger, they don’t run from it which would be the typical response. Firefighters are selfless in their service, their only goal to serve and help others whether it’s a medical situation as paramedics or putting out a raging fire and saving someone or some family’s possessions as firefighters.
Firefighters make a strong analogy for Christians. How so? Well, think of it this way. Christians are the firefighters who wield a high-pressure hose past the windows (the eyes and ears) of the burning house (the sinner). The water (God’s mercy) pulls the flames and the heat out (God’s salvation). And the high-pressure hose can’t be handled by just one firefighter – it takes at least two. So, it is with Christians spreading the word of salvation – it takes one (or more) to plant and others to water.
Just like firefighters are always ready to answer the call, Christians must always be ready to share the Good News about our salvation and about the awesome God we serve.
Christians may not physically put on bunker gear and carry a heavy hose into a burning building, but we are to stand ready at all times to answer the call and talk about the living and loving God who created us and wants us to spend eternity with Him.
Dear Heavenly Father: Thank you for the flame you’ve placed in our hearts to love and serve you with devotion and with a love for others. When our task on earth is done, we look forward to a home in heaven with you someday. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
