A Good Soaking – Romans 12:2

A Good Soaking
Romans 12:2 – “Do not conform to the pattern of this worrld, but be transformed by the renewing of your. mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good, and acceptable, and perfect.”

I love a good soaking! For me, soaking in a hot bath is good for my soul. It helps me unwind. It washes away the stress of the day. And it helps me breathe.

But even more, I love soaking in God’s promises – His promises of who He is, who we are to Him, and what He does and will do for us. This type of soaking hushes my worries, lifts my spirit, and restores my confidence. And most importantly, it extinguishes the flaming arrows Satan shoots our way. If you want a WWJD – remember the days of What Would Jesus Do? Well, that’s what Jesus did. Satan came at Jesus with flaming arrows of temptation and destruction and Jesus spoke the truth from scripture and shut Satan up.

My daughter had a great way of soaking herself in the Word. From fairly early on up to when she moved off to college, she was always writing scripture on Post-it notes and putting the Post-its on her mirrors and around her room, on her books – everywhere for her to see.

On the evening before the first day of her sophomore year in high school, I went to put something in her car. Upon seeing her car, a rush of emotions hit me. I was dumbstruck, greatly amused and quite proud. I had to sit inside her car to get the full experience.

On the inside of her car, all over the dashboard, driver side window, passenger window, console, and the windshield except for a little circle of space for her face to peer through and see the road, my daughter had Post-it notes of scripture. Scripture reminding her of who God is and how He will always be with her and how He has plans for her and He will protect her and how she is dearly loved by Him. My daughter, in all her teenage hormonal, angsty glory knew she was going into a battleground, and she wanted to soak herself in God’s promises before she went in.

I’m not suggesting we post scripture all over our windshields as we’d likely get a ticket for that. 😊 But I am suggesting that we all need to find those ways to keep God’s message in the forefront of our minds.

Got some favorite scriptures? Soak in them! Don’t yet have favorite scriptures? I’d love to share two of mine with you. Take them and enjoy the soak!

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Romans 8:38-39 “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
