I came home from work today, and began the reset. I started making my lunch for the next day. Better to do it now than in the morning before leaving. The quality of my lunch goes down as I am in a big rush. Now I can take my time and think on what I am putting in it. My wife made some chicken salad Sunday afternoon. I used some of it for a sandwich on Monday. Today I took an Earl Campbell Hot Link that I had grilled on Thursday evening last week. I cooked 5 and had one left for lunch today. I decided tonight to make another chicken salad sandwich. There was a fresh loaf of Dave’s Killer Bread (my favorite), but I noticed the end of another bag of sandwich bread containing only two heels. Like unwanted orphans, they looked at me with tears. If I don’t use them, I am going to have to toss them in the trash. I couldn’t let myself do that. Most of you know why. “There are starving children in _____”. So, I fished them out, and packed on a bunch of chicken salad. It looked quite good, to be honest. The heels made it look inviting and tasty.
We live in a world where God’s word, His truth, seems to be buried under a cacophony of meaningless dust. When He returns, will He find us faithful? Or like two last heels in a bread bag, will we be tossed into the trash without complaint?
Father in heaven, sometimes it pains me to face another day. Help me to be faithful when it hurts real bad, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
