| John 3:16 – “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son.” |
In 1860, two sisters named Anna and Susan Warner wrote a novel called Say and Seal. Tucked inside it was a poem — a few simple lines meant to comfort a frightened child. Those lines were set to music, and before long they had traveled far beyond the pages of any novel.
The words themselves are not complicated. They make no grand theological argument. They do not parse a doctrine or explain a mystery. They simply state what is most true: God loves us, and we can know it.
John the apostle said it this way: “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son.” That is the foundation of our life, our hope, and our destiny.
So, reach back. Remember being small, and singing without self-consciousness, the simplest and most profound song you ever learned.
Jesus loves me, this I know.
For the Bible tells me so.
Some truths are best understood the way a child understands them — not with argument, but with trust.
Carry that with you today.
