Psalms 37:23 – “The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.” |
I remember when my daughter was first learning to walk. One day she could not stand alone and would cruise around the room by holding onto the furniture. But before long she let go and went toddling down the hall and into the bathroom, all on her own. No longer could I leave her unattended even for a short amount of time – she found all sorts of trouble to get into and there were many dangerous situations for me to intercept. As much as I was excited that she could walk, it certainly caused me to keep an even closer eye on her.
One morning I got her up and dressed and set her on the floor of her nursery so I could get ready for work. Suddenly I heard a crashing and banging coming from the kitchen – she had opened the cupboard where the pots and pans were stored, pulled them all out into a pile, and was using them as a drum set. I’m not sure I ‘delighted’ in the noise, especially so early in the morning. And my apartment neighbors probably didn’t either. Things were very different from here on, whether we were shopping or playing at the park. I needed to direct her steps to keep her safe, and she needed to learn to obey and listen to my instructions.
God watches over us and desires to direct our steps as we go through life, but it is crucial that we listen and obey when he gives us his guidance. He knows the dangers around us and he will protect us from harm – we just need to be responsive to his voice. (contributed by Betty Gossell/CEP Auditor)
Prayer
Dear Father, thank you that your eyes are always on me, watching over every detail of my life. Help me to hear your voice and respond quickly as you guide me away from dangerous situations and into a life of peace and love with you. Amen.
