Titus 3:2 – “To slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.” |
We all need to be reminded about the power of the tongue, how to treat one another, and behave in our relationships with all people. I think we can all agree that the tongue can be one of the most destructive members of the human body and the most challenging to tame.
Scripture is really clear in the directive to “speak evil of no man.” In fact, slander is a severe offense in the Bible. Slander can cause separation between friends, families, and churches. When we consider the seriousness of slander and its potential to bring ruin on us and destroy the lives of others, then, yes, we really ought to speak evil of no man. The old adage “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” is not true. Words can do a great deal of damage to those who have been slandered.
God’s solution for slander is to love each other. When we focus on obeying the Lord by loving as he loved us, slander will not be a temptation.
Lord, let the words of my mouth and the deep longing of my heart be always pleasing to you. Amen
