Do Nothing – 2 Corinthians 10:1-4

Do Nothing

2 Corinthians 10:1-4 – – “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not weapons of the world. On the contrary they have divine power to demolish strongholds.”

Recently I was trying to figure out how to navigate through some costly and invasive home repairs. This was complicated by also needing to determine ways of helping several family members and close friends facing illness or other difficulties. While praying about developing a plan of attack for these challenges, I felt the LORD’s initial instruction was to do nothing.

With so much to be completed, I was stunned at this initial step. However, as I pondered this, today’s text came to mind. I was reminded as believers we have the opportunity to respond to challenges differently. This strategy does not start with typical actions such as securing resources, enlisting other’s help, clearing areas in our physical space and/or on our calendars or other related activities.

Instead, it involves pausing to take time to praise the LORD for being the One for whom nothing is impossible. Also, to remember “whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe” (Proverbs 29:25). Plus, we need to express gratitude for the ways He has helped us in the past and for the ways He will help with any current or future difficulties. To some, undertaking such initial actions in the face of a challenge might be considered the equivalent of doing nothing. But through engaging the otherworldly weapons of praise, trust, and gratitude, we can experience the elimination of the strongholds of fear, uncertainty, and discouragement.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for being our constant source of help, regardless of the challenges we face. When facing difficulties help us remember to first engage otherworldly weapons such as praise, trust, and gratitude before undertaking any other actions. In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.
