From Here Through Eternity – Psalm 73:26

From Here Through Eternity

Psalm 73:26 – “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

No matter what our age or stage is in this life, wear and tear on the body is inevitable. Our heart also goes through stressors as we weep and mourn as we encounter sins’ effects all around us. Economic instability fractured personal relationships, disease outbreaks and more seem to dominate daily news.

But guess what? For the Christian, headlines do not dominate our lives. Living in God’s presence and obedience to Him is our mainstay amidst life’s ups and downs. King David appointed a man named Asaph to be the music leader in Jerusalem’s temple. Asaph records in Psalm 73, among other things, how the wicked seem to prosper.

In verse 16, Asaph had a change of heart when he entered the sanctuary of God. He set Asaph’s heart straight about the wicked and other injustices he saw. I understand Asaph’s heart and mindset in this chapter. I confess I question God’s working in certain circumstances.

There are times I throw up my hands and say, “Enough, God! Ok?” When I reach this stage, I’ve taken my eyes off sovereign God and his all- encompassing majesty. I’ve become weak in every way when my gaze is somewhere other than upon our heavenly Father.

Verse 26 reminds me that God is my strength which means this strength is apart from me. Its source is outside me. He holds my heart, both literally and figuratively, and God Himself is enough for me to be and remain secure in Him both now and throughout eternity, come what may.
