Today, my wife and I are going to Waxahachie for the Christmas Tour of Homes. As I am getting ready this morning, I have a vague memory of last year. December 10, 2022, I was her escort on the home tour. We had a good time, but there was a distraction for me. My college team was playing basketball that day. Their opponent was Arkansas, and they played in Tulsa. Well, today, one year later, they will play each other in a rematch. And it will happen once again while I am in the middle of the home tour. This can be a really nice time for my wife and I, or it could be a really nice time for me to watch my favorite team in an exciting venue play in a big game. These situations pop up often in life. I have a choice to make. Between something I DESIRE to do, and something that is BETTER for me to do. Something that meets a higher purpose vs something that fills a carnal lust. I know what could make this a really nice day. Will I do it? When I am watching my team play sports, and my wife tries to speak to me (or anyone for that matter), my brain cannot receive the transmission. All circuits are busy. In fact, my brain does it’s best to jam the incoming signal, in order to keep the sporting event from losing fidelity. I am another person until the final gun sounds. I must know the outcome, and nothing else matters. Satan works in much the same way. He dangles things in my path that he knows I lust for. So, I have a decision to make. Do the thing that is eternally good for me, or do the thing that meets an immediate carnal desire, and has harmful consequences in the long run. Father in heaven, thank You for providing a heavenly reward. Help me to desire it more, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
