Psalm 139:11-12 – “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me, even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to You.”
Typically, when I walk into a dark room, the first action taken is to switch on the light. This is necessary so I do not stumble around in the dark, waste time, or become injured.
Yet I am probably not the only one who, when facing challenging situations, becomes ensnared with fear and negative thoughts, as if standing motionless, peering into a dark room. This response may be because of uncertainty, being overwhelmed by the complexity of the situation, or feeling there is no resolution to the difficulty.
Just as hitting the light switch immediately illuminates a dark room, pausing and seeking the LORD can instantaneously help us begin seeing a path forward. What the path looks like can vary. It may be the formation of an idea for taking initial steps towards resolution or suddenly beginning to feel as if one is wrapped in the LORD’s peace. Seeking the LORD when facing difficulties ensures we are enlisting the assistance of the One of whom no darkness can ever overshadow.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that regardless of what difficulties we face, we can rest knowing darkness is as light to You. Help us remember to turn our gaze away from the darkness into the light of Your beautiful face. In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.
