Psalm 7:10 – “My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart.”
There are numerous actions to take to shield us from potential danger. These can include locking doors and installing security systems in our homes to protect us from intruders. Additionally, purchasing insurance is a way of shielding us from financial ruin in the event of damage to our assets. Making solid dietary choices, exercising regularly, and following our health care team’s advice are ways of shielding us from catastrophic health conditions.
While such practices are necessary and prudent ways of protecting us from untoward incidents, there is always a chance they will fall short of completely shielding us. Today’s text reminds us there is a shield far superior to any type crafted by human hands and ingenuity. That is the shield the LORD provides, for He is our protector regardless of the threat we face. He who neither slumbers nor sleeps, and is unmatched in power and wisdom, remains steadfastly our shield.
