Psalm 146:3 – “Blessed is he whose help is in the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD.” |
Early one chilly morning when looking through the kitchen window, my cherished view of the pink and orange glow of sunrise was obscured by low hanging gray clouds. Within just a couple of moments, the wind began violently shaking the trees and a loud clap of thunder signaled the start of a furious rainstorm.
The stormy conditions aligned with my morose mood. I felt overwhelmed because of a family member’s marital challenges, my husband’s continual struggles with irretractable back pain and a myriad of other health concerns, and facing two unanticipated and very expensive house repair bills. I felt I was as helpless and hopeless bringing resolution to these difficulties as I would be trying to stop the wind and rainstorm raging just outside my kitchen window.
It was in that moment I was reminded of the One even the wind and the waves obey (Luke 8:24). As I began remembering our only source of help and hope is the LORD, I was blessed with an overwhelming feeling of His peace and presence in the midst of the storm.
Dear Heavenly Father, we are in awe that even the wind and waves must succumb to your command. Help us remember that regardless of the severity of the storms we face, You remain our source of help and hope. In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.
