Matthew 5:9 – “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God” |
Peace does not necessarily mean the absence of conflict. Instead, peace means being still and confident even in times of trouble because we know that God is with us. God gives us peace unlike this world has to offer and Jesus is our perfect example of a peacemaker.
Being a peacemaker is a noble pursuit that contributes positively to the world. A peacemaker is someone who strives to bring peace between people. One can never be a peacemaker unless they have peace in their own heart because as the saying goes, “You cannot give something you don’t have.”
How can we become peacemakers? First we can examine our own hearts, attitudes, and beliefs. We strive for a mindset of empathy, understanding, and compassion realizing that everyone has their own struggles and hardships. We can also listen actively to others and remain open to learning about their lives.
Lastly, we can create spaces where people can express their thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. As God’s children, we are to bring peace to others. The more we follow Christ, the more we demonstrate kindness, patience, and understanding in our interactions.
Being a peacemaker doesn’t mean avoiding disagreements altogether. It means handling conflicts with grace, empathy, and a commitment to finding solutions that benefit everyone involved.
Prayer Lord, help us to be your peacemakers on earth. Help us to always seek your guidance in all life decisions that impact our witness. Help us to be mindful of others and the pain they may be experiencing and to strive for peace on earth. Help us to show the love of Christ to the world! Amen
