Hebrews 13:16 – “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” |
Do you remember the iconic TV show, Bonanza, and the wealthy Cartwright family who owned the Ponderosa Ranch? One thing that struck me about each episode was the hospitality Ben and his sons extended to everyone they encountered. Whether a long lost friend, a distant family member or someone down on their luck, they always said, “Stay with us. We’ve got plenty of room.” Those folks did come, and they stayed with the Cartwrights. No matter who, the result was always the same, that person was better off when they left than when they arrived.
We, as Christians, are much like the Cartwrights. We are wealthy beyond measure. We’ve heard God’s word and received His amazing grace. As such, shouldn’t we, like the Cartwrights, be eager to share the spiritual wealth we’ve received and invite those we encounter with “There’s plenty of room in God’s House. Come and hear the Good News.” Just as the Cartwrights in Bonanza, we should extend a welcome and share the Good News with everyone we encounter. And like those sojourners at the Ponderosa, those hearing the Good News will be infinitely better off than when they arrived.
Dear Lord: Open our hearts and our eyes to sharing the Good News with those around us who need your love and grace. In Jesus’ sweet name, Amen.
