Proverbs 18:21 – “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

In life, everyone has their own journey and purpose to fulfill. Our thoughts about ourselves determine the words we speak and how we see ourselves.

Today’s scripture tells us that our tongue is powerful, and what we say can be fruitful to our destiny or it can destroy it. It can be a weapon to lift us up or it can destroy us.

Have you or do you know someone who compares their life to someone else’s life? When we see someone else’s journey and think they have a nicer house or a better job, we are speaking death to our own life’s purpose. There is no good fruit in digesting those negative thoughts of not being good enough or not feeling blessed. We all have something to overcome, even someone who may have more tangible wealth.

We all have troubles and situations to overcome. But it is thoughts and words that we speak that breathe life into our situations. If we choose life, we are eating the fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23 NIV), which is where we will find God’s purpose and fulfillment. When we focus on God, we start thinking like Him and speaking blessings over our lives. Focusing on someone else’s journey and then making a comparison will only cancel out the blessings we already have as well as those blessings coming our way.

How we see ourselves is how we speak about ourselves, which determines true blessings that come with peace and joy that no money can buy. As we move forward, let us be aware of the thoughts we may entertain and let us speak life into our situations. Let us practice speaking peace, joy, hope and love over our lives and watch how God will step into our situations and turn them into something far better than we could ever imagine.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for another day of your grace and mercy. Thank you for giving us hope in knowing that following your path is the only way to living life abundantly. Help us to stay focused on you and to speak life and love the life you have granted us. We honor you, Lord. In Jesus name, amen.
