Ephesians 5:15-17 – “Be very careful then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the LORD’s will is.”
Recently there have been multiple days when what I planned and what I actually accomplished were very divergent. Working on projects, errands I had hoped to complete, and even household chores had to be put on hold. There are a myriad of reasons for these schedule interruptions, but many were related to friends and family facing difficulties.
As someone who likes to establish and accomplish goals, the LORD used these interruptions as a way for me to reconsider what I am doing with my time and how it can best align with His will. While there is nothing wrong with focusing on completing goals, deciding to approach interruptions as an opportunity to serve Him can be a wise choice.
This can include carving out time from an already full day to visit a hospitalized friend. A wise choice might be deciding to forgo items on one’s to-do list to instead meet with someone struggling with a challenging family situation. Or, it can mean postponing the laundry, dusting, and other housekeeping tasks to help someone whose home is in disarray because of a number of personal setbacks. What I have learned is each schedule interruption can be a precious opportunity to shine His light and love into the lives of those desperately needing support and encouragement.
