Self Care? – Romans 13:14

Self Care?
Dirty ceiling and wall.
Romans 13:14 – “Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.”

My attitude definitely needs to be made new when stuck in a negative pattern. Attitude shifts can be because we are tired, don’t feel well, or are doing too much. It can also happen when we compare ourselves to others and over spend, eat, worry, or chase the acceptance of others.

Thankfully, this battle isn’t ours to fight alone because sometimes we feel helpless to shift our attitude. How amazing that our God planted power in His Word and the praises of His people to break the chains we could never shake off ourselves.

When you feel a negative attitude threaten, turn on some worship music, go for a walk, and let God do what He does best — change you from the inside out.

He can help us rein in our thoughts and have a renewed perspective. When your thoughts feel locked in negativity, ask Him to redirect and renew your mind as you strive to put Him first.

Romans 12:2, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. ( 2 Corinthians 4:7 )

The light shining in our hearts is Jesus. This light shows the world He is in us and is the One responsible for our successes. We need to be careful not to get puffed up and take the credit! Stay connected to God through His word and prayer, and always remember He is the ultimate source of power.

The other morning I was rushing around the house getting ready to drive to Dallas and happened to look up and notice a totally dusty and dirty ceiling fan in my room. Hadn’t even looked up there and noticed it and man was it filthy!

It made me think about how we run around like hamsters on a wheel in this life. We often blast through beauty and sweet times totally missing them because we are just sprinting through time and not noticing life. We also may miss opportunities for self care because we just don’t notice that we need some sprucing up! Body, spirit, and soul.

Is there a part of your life that is like that fan? Dusty and needs attention? Take a moment right now to take a deep breath and notice you. What one small thing can you do for you this week for self care?
