| 1 Corinthians 15:58- “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” |
We are assigned to our work sites to accomplish designated tasks and provide specific services. Our placement at a site is based on our training, experience, and skillset. However, today’s text suggests the reason for our placement goes beyond our attributes and the needs of the work setting. It is an opportunity to serve the LORD and to be used to help accomplish His plans and purposes within the very setting He has placed us.
One way of doing this is by showing His love for each and every person we encounter throughout our workday. This can be accomplished in a myriad of ways. These may include extending a warm greeting to everyone crossing our path, speaking encouraging words to a co-worker who is struggling, praying with someone, or simply taking the time to listen to someone needing a sympathetic ear. It can also mean choosing to respond with kindness even when spoken to rudely or harshly.
Taking such actions, especially on stressful and chaotic days, helps us realize we are not laboring in vain. Instead, we can feel a sense of accomplishment when we steadfastly remain focused on serving as a conduit for shining His light and love to others.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the opportunity to serve you within our work settings. Help us remember regardless of where we work or what is occurring within the setting, we are called to serve as an ambassador of Your love. In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.
