Proverbs 15:3 – “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.“ |
We seldom think about our effect on other’s lives.
Some may protest that they are not perfect.
But you don’t have to be perfect to shape someone else, even if you don’t know it.
We all could name someone who you observed their life and tried in some small way to live in the same way.
I am sure they did not think their life was changing another, but it always does.
And that is true of us as well.
The poet captured the sentiment in a profoundly simply way in a pieced called “A Child’s Prayer.”
God make my life a little light,
Within the world to glow;
A tiny flame that burneth bright
Wherever I may go.
God make my life a little flower,
That giveth joy to all,
Content to bloom in native bower,
Although its place be small.
God make my life a little song,
That comforteth the sad;
That helpeth others to be strong,
And makes the singer glad.
God make my life a little staff,
Whereon the weak may rest,
That so what health and strength I have
May serve my neighbors best.
Think of the images
a light to help the world glow.
A flower to make it more beautiful.
A song to life the spirits.
A staff to assist the weak.
Jesus used similar small ideas.
a light to the world
A salt to preserve and flavor.
As simple as they are, they are profound. Never forget someone is watching you. What will you be?
