How do people get lost?
Researchers investigated the question. They blindfolded people in and open field and told them to walk straight. Every person did the same thing. They walked in small, tight circles and ended back at their starting point.
Then, they removed the blindfolds and sent them back across the field. GPS tracked each person.
As long as the sun was up or there was a landmark, they could maintain a straight line. But when the sun disappeared behind clouds, they started circling again.
Nobody gets lost on purpose. Instead, they lose their bearings and don’t know where to go.
The Hebrew writer addresses wanderers who were losing their way in a strange and dangerous world.
“looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2 ESV)
The landmark that never changes keeps you walking in a straight line.
If the Hebrew Christians focused on Jesus, they would walk straight. Lose sight of the master, and they wander. It goes for us as well.
Don’t become a wanderer. Walk your walk with Jesus as the focus.
