Proverbs 8:5 – “You naive ones, understand prudence; And, you fools, understand wisdom!” |
Decisions. Our lives are full of decisions. Endless choices. From our waking moment until we retire at night, our days are crowded with one decision after another. Some are made thoughtlessly, intuitively, instinctively, habitually. But others aren’t so easy.
What about life’s tougher choices? Those difficult decisions that are weightier, bearing heavier consequences. These can be a real burden. They can leave us confused, shake our confidence, steal our joy and sometimes even rattle our faith. Who cannot benefit from wisdom to help make decision-making easier?
In the Bible, Proverbs 8 speaks to this very subject. Wisdom is described as a woman of knowledge, understanding and experience who was with God before the beginning of time. She has seen it all. She has experienced all that heaven and earth have to offer—the good, the bad and the ugly. Because of her close and longstanding proximity to our creator, she speaks only what she knows to be true. Her words are therefore trustworthy, just and righteous. Her counsel is more valuable than silver or gold. Who would not benefit from knowing a person with this depth of insight? Certainly, we all need a relationship with someone who can provide timely help and dependable counsel for life’s toughest decisions!
In Proverbs 8:17 and 8:33-35, Wisdom, this metaphorical woman of understanding and advice says, “”I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me“…”For those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord.““
Why not seek wisdom? Why not seek godly counsel that is more trustworthy than any from mankind? Take a moment to ask God for the blessing of His wisdom and understanding and the clarity to face the tough choices of life. Its promise is there for the asking.
