Proverbs 16:24 – “Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.” |
Your words matter. All of them. The power of your tongue can either bring life or it can bring death to the atmosphere. We can either breathe out words that can feed someone’s spirit or shut them down. This is why it is important that this be an area of surrender to God. Words can be weighty and we don’t always get to assign the weight of our words. The recipient is who can determine that weight.
“Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.” Proverbs 16:24
Our speech is ultimately determined by what we have stored up in our hearts. If our hearts are full of pride, our speech is full of words laced with judgment and a superiority. If our hearts are full of humility, our speech is full of words laced with grace and mercy.
Fear breathes our words of worry and dread. Hurt, words of shame. Hope (the Kingdom kind) breathes out words of courage and peace. Love, words of comfort and healing.
How can we then bless others with gracious and measured conversations? A prayer I say every Sunday morning before I step into church is for only God’s words to flow out of me. I need to be better at utilizing this prayer daily… sometimes multiple times per day!
