| Hebrews 11:10 – “He (Abraham) was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.” |
My late father-in-law, Bob, passed away almost three years ago. He was a generous soul who enjoyed donating some money, nothing extravagant, to a few nonprofit groups. Often, a group will sell their donation name list to another group, and the unending requests to support nonprofits do not stop (not without a lot of time and effort, anyway). By the time of his death, we found enough return address labels to wallpaper a small bathroom.
Every so often a curious postcard arrives in our mail for Bob that makes me shake my head. This nondescript, flimsy white card looks official, complete with a notice date, a registration ID PIN number, and more. Who knows? Maybe it is legitimate. The gist is for a homeowner to pay a third party a fee, and thus that third party is supposed to pay a portion of costs related to needed home repairs.
I laugh out loud every time this postcard arrives, not only because my father-in-law has been deceased for years, but most important, he’s also changed addresses. Sweet Bob is in his final and perfect home. No longer afflicted by chronic back pain and fragilities of advanced age, Bob is in his home the writer of Hebrews chapter 11 references. Heaven is our perfect home designed by the perfect architect. No repairs are needed on this home because nothing breaks, leaks, or wears out. It’s what you might call an other-worldly home.
Abraham was called by God, just as we are, for a specific purpose, and by faith, Abraham was obedient to God’s instructions. We, too, are to be about remaining faithful to God as we obey the Holy Spirit, spend time in Scripture and prayer and enjoy our daily walk with Him. And one day after our earthly journey is complete, God will call us home. Designed and built by God, heaven is a place where Christians will praise and worship Him throughout eternity.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for sending your only son, Jesus, to die for our sins so that we may one day live with you, in heaven, our perfect home.
