Proverbs 3:27-28 – “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbor, ‘Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you’ – when you already have it with you.”
“Here and Now” were printed in bright and bold letters on the sign in the window of a store by which I was walking. The sign was a ploy to beckon customers to come inside immediately to take advantage of a huge clearance sale. Although I was tempted, I decided to keep moving on.
However, those words “Here and Now” began speaking to me as to how applicable they are in a variety of other situations. For instance, it is a great approach for serving others. It is choosing to serve in the moment with whatever time and bandwidth we have to show others the love of Jesus.
This could be providing a ride for a neighbor whose car has broken down, visiting a hospitalized friend, or expressing our concern and support via a phone call or text to a colleague going through challenges.
While acts of service are important, there are other ways of showing Jesus’s love in immediate and impactful ways. One is stopping and praying for others whether it be a friend, family member, or new acquaintance when we become aware of their struggles. It may also include sharing without hesitancy the Good News of Jesus to those we encounter who do not know Him as LORD and Savior. It may be reminding believers facing difficulties the LORD has not forgotten about them. What a difference we could make if we daily take a “here and now” approach to serving the LORD.
Dear Heavenly Father, forgive us when we overlook opportunities to show Your love to others. Help us to have a “here and now” approach to serving others. In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.
