Have you ever had a bad day? Have you ever had someone say something that absolutely cut you to the quick? Have you ever felt so beat down, you can’t even lift your head? I think we can all say yes – absolutely yes! It’s happened to all of us at one time or another, but what can we do about it?
The best thing to do and the first line of ‘defense’ is to pray. Talk to God about it. Open up your heart and tell Him all about it. He wants us to come to Him openly with our defenses down so that He can minister to and for us.
Secondly and one that God’s hand guides is kind words and support from a friend(s). Such words and time spent together when one’s heart is aching are truly apples of gold in settings of silver – priceless. But you know what? Such words don’t have to be shared just when someone is having a bad day. How about when you’re having a great day? Sharing some joy or bringing some unexpected brightness into someone’s life looks like apples of gold in settings of silver too.
Don’t just wait for when someone is having a bad day. Step out there and share some joy no matter what kind of day they (or you!) might be having and make them smile. It won’t only make them feel better; it will make you feel better too!
Dear God: You hold the words of life in your hands. You know what we need when we need it and when we need a supportive, listening friend, you send them our way. Thank you for such friends and the love they share so generously when it’s needed. Help us to overcome this world’s distractions, help us to always reach for a home with you for eternity. We love you, Lord. Amen.
