I keep reading Psalms 19. How fun… the sun comes out like an athlete and runs all day to the end. Having the Lord is better than having fine gold, and sweeter than honey on the honeycomb! But it’s the last verse that I can really relate to.
Ever since early in our marriage, my husband would say “I do the best I can every day.” I always took that saying with a grain of salt, as I didn’t understand even the possibility of it happening. It just seemed out of reach for me. The more I studied the Scripture, the more I understood that this should be an everyday lifestyle for each one of us as Christians. The seed was planted and I went from thinking it was unreachable, to why not try it? Doing so, set well within my spirit. That action turned into a habit, which has defined my character. Do I still sin? Yep, I fall short of the goal. But I am forgiven. Was I forgiven before I did my best every day? I think so. As we grow in our faith, it is natural to discipline ourselves to be the best we can to honor Jesus every day.
Now, I really don’t want to sin, and find it embarrassing when I do. I want to be perfect, but I’m just made of dirt. I want everything I think, say, and do to please the Lord. He is my best friend and has done so much for me. I just want to show Him that I love Him by being completely obedient to Him.
Until He comes to get us, let us be careful of our thoughts because they become our words. Let us be careful of our words because they become our actions. Let us be careful of our actions because they become our habits. Let us be careful of our habits because they become our character. Let us be careful of our character, because that becomes our destiny. Our destiny begins with a thought! We want all our thoughts to please Him. He is our Rock and our Redeemer! I cannot wait for that day in which we will all be made perfect.
