John 4:7 – There *came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus *said to her, “Give Me a drink.” |
I made a trip to Fort Worth this morning to see my mother. I plan my trips so I will be with her for lunch. I stopped at the Chipotle restaurant near where she lives. I ordered our food and watched them put on each ingredient I selected.
The cashier asked me something that I could not decipher. The third time she said it, I understood her. “Any drinks or sides of chips and salsa”? Me: No, thank you. I explained that there was a lot of background noise and that makes it hard for me to hear her. A young man standing next to her said “No need to explain. My hearing is terrible”. Me: “What has happened to your hearing? Too many concerts”? Him: “Semi truck accident crushed my inner ear. I am just now back at work”. “I am sorry to hear that”. I felt for him. He: “That’s how it goes”. I said a prayer for him.
How far can I extend my love for others? To a perfect stranger? I hope so. Jesus began a conversation with “Give me a drink”. She was the perfect stranger. She got the whole town out to hear Him. He cared about strangers. Father in heaven, help me to care as You do, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
