Luke 6:27-28 – “But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.”

It’s rather hard to love our enemies.  To bless them??  Kind of tough!  Pray for them?  Well, maybe ask the Lord to give them what’s coming to them!

Jesus gives the best reason for making this a ‘given’ on our part to automatically forgive.

When I think of all the times that I have willingly gone against the Lord, and exercised my will as opposed to His, it’s embarrassing and shameful!  I want the Lord to forgive me for everything I have ever done.  That makes it so much easier for me to automatically forgive someone who has sinned against me.  When I do that, I am telling the Lord that I want to be forgiven.  If I really want Him to forgive me for every sin, the very least I can do is forgive those who sin against me.  It’s a no brainer.  Forgive others the way you want to be forgiven by God.
