1 Corinthians 15:58 – “Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the LORD, knowing that in the LORD your labor is not in vain.”
For most of us when spotting a hot air balloon floating overhead, we pause to admire its colorful markings and graceful movement across the sky. We may even marvel at the pilot’s skill in maneuvering this unique mode of transportation. Typically, what we don’t consider is the chase crew. This is a team which quietly and dutifully manages a myriad of tasks imperative for a successful and safe flight from pre-launch to after the balloon’s landing.
Just as there are different roles concerning balloon flights, it is similar for believers carrying out the LORD’s plans and purposes. Some, such as serving as a pastor, worship leader, or leading a large faith-based service organization are more prominent than others. However, opportunities abound for fulfilling roles akin to those of a chase crew.
Those serving this way are often working silently behind the scenes and/or are in roles of which others are unaware. The “chase crew” could be the volunteers in a children’s ministry, the couple who weekly host a small Bible study in their home, or individuals who faithfully provide financial and prayer support for a missionary family living in a foreign country.
Whether related to ballooning or serving the LORD, all roles are vital whether they are prominent or more obscure. Regardless of our role when serving in His Kingdom, the joy comes because we are not laboring in vain.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for allowing us opportunities to participate in the work of Your Kingdom. Help us remember to serve with joy regardless of our role. In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.
