| John 4:29 – “Come see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” |
My wife and I arrived home from Kroger with our groceries yesterday. We unloaded the groceries from the street, in front of the house, so as to traipse through less ice and slush. I then drove the car to the garage in back and unloaded the bulky package of paper towels and water bottles. We have a cabinet in the garage where we store them.
While I was doing that, our RING doorbell alerted me on my phone. I checked to see who it was. Our son’s new mattress was being delivered. I hurried inside to help with that. The man in charge (there were two guys) said the frame was broken and needed to be replaced. I went in his room to take a look and noticed that the brace across the mid-section was missing a nut. That was all we needed. I told the guy I could fix it, and they left the mattress and box springs leaning against the wall in our laundry room.
I went to the garage to look for a nut. “If I can’t find one in the garage, I am going to the hardware store to buy one.” I alerted my wife. In less than 5 minutes I returned with exactly what I needed. I have a storage cabinet with lots of little drawers full of nuts, bolts, and other thing-a-ma-jigs. I save them for such times as this. On this particular hunt, it paid off. I saved myself a trip to the True Value store.
One time I bought replacement spark plugs for my truck, and as I was changing them, noticed some spark plugs on the work bench in our garage. They were for my truck. I bought them and had not used them. And now I bought them a second time. It pays to know what you have on hand. One thing that affords me this knowledge is to clean and organize the garage occasionally.
The Bible is full of answers, but knowing where to find them and understanding them requires study. We need to know what is in it if we want to pull things out of it. Once when talking to a friend at work after hours, she asked if God could forgive her for her multiple marriages. I had recently read John chapter 4 about a Samaritan woman who had been married 5 times and was now living with a guy, and not married to him. Jesus reaches out to her and offers her some good news. I asked my friend to go home and read John chapter 4 and see what she thought the answer to her question was. If I had not been studying it, it would not have come to mind. God has answers.
Father in heaven, thank You for Your good news, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
