Psalms 91:1-2 – “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” |
When I was a little girl, I grew up in Houston. The tropical storms were so strong that we could hear the mighty winds blowing and the heavy rains crashing upon the roof of our house. You just knew any minute the whole rooftop would just blow right off. My brother and I would run to my parents’ room for protection. No matter how many storms we had experienced, each time, my mother would always hold us and reassure us to just be quiet and stay still, God will handle the storm. And soon enough, the storm would pass over us and things would quiet down.
Today’s scripture reminds us, when we are facing life’s challenges that seem like storms in our lives, God will provide a shelter for us. No matter how many times we run to him, he will be our comforter, and he will provide a resting place for us. God’s power is omnipotent, and his mercies are renewed each day. We can go to him as little children and he will rescue us from dangers seen and unseen. Let us remember to trust him and stay under his covering as he has promised to keep us safe from the storms of life.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for being our shelter in the times of trouble. Please continue to hide us and protect us as we walk through life’s journey each day. In Jesus name, amen.
