| Galatians 6:7 – “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” (Galatians |
How do you want people to treat you?
The answer is not hard to find. We want respect. Courtesy. A measure of care. And many of us feel, somewhere in the back of our minds, that we are simply entitled to it.
But perhaps before blaming others for what we don’t receive, we ought to look in the mirror.
There is an old American fable about a hen living on a farm who finds some wheat and decides to bake bread. She asks the other animals for help planting it. They refuse. She asks for help at harvest. They refuse. She asks for help milling the grain into flour. They refuse. She bakes the bread alone.
Then she asks if anyone would like to help eat the bread. Suddenly, every animal on the farm is available and eager.
The hen has a different answer for them. “Since I made the bread myself,” she says, “I will eat it by myself.” And off she goes.
It is a simple story, but it cuts close. Most of us want something out of life that we did not put in. We want to reap where we did not sow, and gain advantage without labor.
Paul named this principle plainly:
“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” (Galatians 6:7, NIV)
The harvest of your life will look a great deal like what you planted.
So, take care with what you sow today. It will come back to you — in kind, and in time.
