Joyfully Give
Salvation Army Bucket
Matthew 6:1-4 – “So, when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets…your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

Giving is a big part of this holiday season. It gives me joy and warms my heart to know when I am a part of making a difference in someone’s life. When I read these verses, it reminds me to do a heart check. What is the motive? God is looking at our hearts. Are we seeking approval or recognition from others?

The scripture tells us that we are blessed when God is honored and not when we are honored by others. We do not gain anything by being boastful about our giving. Showing love is giving with sacrifice and not expecting anything in return. When we give in this manner, we honor God. In return, he has promised to bless us.

One thing I have learned in my journey with the Lord, is no one can beat His giving. He is the ultimate gift giver, and there is nothing we can give Him other than our love. When we give, let us keep our hearts pure and our motives in check. Let us give to make a difference because that truly is the reward.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for reminding us to keep an eye on our motives. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to help others and please keep us humble as our only motive should be to serve you. In Jesus Name, Amen
