Colossians 3:14 – “But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.” |
Blest be the tie that binds
Our hearts in Christian love;
The fellowship of kindred minds
Is like to that above.
Before our Father’s throne,
We pour our ardent prayers;
Our fears, our hopes, our aims are one,
Our comforts, and our cares.
We share our mutual woes,
Our mutual burdens bear;
And often for each other flows
The sympathizing tear.
When we asunder part,
It gives us inward pain;
But we shall still be joined in heart,
And hope to meet again.
One of the tenors of the New Testament church was that single word fellowship.
In the earliest days of Christianity, life was simple: “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” (Acts 2:42, NIV)
But unless fellowship rises to that of John Fawcett’s can we say the tie binds?
