Proverb 18:22 – “He who finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtains favor from the LORD.” |
Romance is in the air today. Ask her what would be a romantic evening and you might hear: a quiet dinner (that she didn’t cook herself), candlelight, soft music, conversation (about something besides sports), and nice clothes (not denim), good smells (a change from what guys can dish out at home), and smiles. She might like a card with a heartfelt sentiment, a thoughtful gift, and doing something with her that she likes to do.
How do you know what to get her? I like to just come out and ask her. And then get her what she asks for. It is that simple for me.
Most romantic moments? I am not sure what she would say to that. It might be when we went to the French Room at the Adolphus Hotel. It is first class. She was pregnant (very) and we dressed up, but we were sort of fish out of water (a bit). The ceiling is painted with cherubs, looks like Michelangelo’s sistine chapel. There are waiters who never take their eyes off of you, as they don’t want to miss when you snap a finger in their direction.Or our evening at the Mansion at Turtle Creek, compliments of my employer. Pretty impressive.
My favorite memory? She called me. “My car won’t start. I think I need a battery.” “I will be there shortly. Where are you?” I met her at our church in the back parking lot. I parked beside her after picking up a battery. I popped the hood and began disconnecting her dead battery. It was raining. I worked for AutoZone part time and had changed batteries in the rain before. She got out her large golf umbrella and shielded me from the rain while I worked. She has done a lot of nice things for me, but for some reason, that one is special.
It is sort of like the story by O Henry. “The Gift Of The Magi”. He sold his watch to buy her combs for her beautiful long hair, and she sold her hair to buy a gold chain for his watch. I was working on her car, and she was keeping me dry. Marriage is a lot like that. A team of two. A partnership. An exclusive relationship which invites no others in. A bed for only two.
God gives us very good things. My wife is a wonderful gift that God led me to. It just took me a long time to see how good she was. Jesus is a wonderful gift unlike any other. Why does it take so long to see?
Father in heaven, thank You for loving us so completely, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
